Do they match?

We are taking a poll. The question is: Do black and brown match? As in clothing items. For example, can you wear a black shirt with brown pants? Or black shoes with brown pants? Please leave your reply in the comments section. Thank you for your help.

I say yes, they definitely do. And who are "we" in your poll taking?

I came home yesterday wearing a Black button up shirt, with darker khaki pant, a brown belt, and brown shoes. I thought it looked good. Christy told me it didn't match, and I say black matches with everything. Maybe we need to post a modeling picture of the "get-up".

They don't so much match as "go". I've learned from Stacy London and Clinton Kelly on TLC's "What Not to Wear" that black and brown look great together. I think it's because brown is considered a neutral and neutrals are supposed to go with just about everything (hence the term neutral). Don't quote me on all of the above though! :-)

I researched it on the internet and it seems Matt may have a point. You need to put a picture of Matt wearing the outfit than we could really see!

Well it depends. You can wear black shoes with brown pants but you CANNOT wear brown shoes with black pants. Same with the belt. NO brown belts and black pants. Now, if the shirt is black with brown pants that is ok. What is NOT ok is the brown belt and brown shoes. Sorry Matt. But I do want to see a picture of the ensemble. Sounds like something Eric would put together.

My opinion is it depends on the shade of brown. Some browns and blacks actually look very nice together - but others should not be worn at the same time. I agree with the other poster who said you can wear black shoes with brown pants, but not brown shoes with black pants. Someone should write a book with all these "rules," I know my husband could use it! He he he!

I actually have seen lots of black and brown together lately, and it seems to work. However I still think black shoes with brown pants and brown shoes with black pants does not work. Does any of that stuff make sense??

I wouldn't ever wear black and brown clothing together...but if it's black pants you might could pull off brown shoes...but not vice versa!

Carl wears black shoes with all his dress pants. They look a little funny with the khaki, but they match well enough. As for a dark brown, with black, I don't know. Probably too close in color to look great.

This is going to sound like the dumbest comment ever, but if it looks like it's on purpose then it's okay. If it looks like an accident then it's not. For example, black belt with brown shoes is not okay. But, say, a black and brown striped shirt would be fine. And I disagree with the pants-shoes thing. black and black or brown and brown. The only exception is khaki pants with black shoes is okay. But I will only do it if I have a black shirt on, so it looks like I did it on purpose.
Of course this is coming from someone who has taken up wearing grey pants with brown shoes, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to comment. In my defense, the grey pants have khaki and chocolate brown stripes down them. They are so thin that you have to get close enough for me to kick you to see them, but they are there. :)

Adam and I have this battle ALL of the time. I say that as a rule of thumb, and to make it easier for the (bless their hearts)color coordinated challenged, no and no. Just stick with one! They should teach this in scouts or something.
